Mindfulness Now
Learn presence through gentle and compassionate mindfulness practices
Ready to be present?
Mindful practice: focus on what you see, what you hear, visualise what you smell and feel…with each step focus on feeling the ground underneath.. all with no judgement just observing. Perhaps you feel like exploring a slow walking meditation outdoors. (video recording: Japanese Garden – Landgoed Clingendael – The Hague)

More than to change or quieten the mind, mindfulness is about awareness and change in perspective.
What is Mindfulness Now (MN)?
Mindfulness Now: a unique mind-body inclusive programme was created by Nick Cooke (Founder of the UK College of Mindfulness Meditation- 2010 as well as college principal, course creator and lead trainer). By creating this programme, Nick’s objective was to make mindfulness as accesible and widely available as possible while meeting an ever increasing demand, and still maintaining high academic and ethical standards.
The MN programme incorporates a fusion of elements-practices from both Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) with adds-on such as self-compassion, a trauma-sensitive approach, participant’s assessment (key to detect potential needs and adjust the practices), safeguarding, and provision to participants of dedicated audio recordings.
What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is being fully present in the moment without judgment, which can involve paying attention to thoughts, feelings, and sensations as they arise. We will then pay attention in a particular way: on purpose.
The “What”
MN practices during the sessions include for instance, walking and sitting meditations, experiencing informal and formal practices, learning the mindfulness attitudes, developing awareness, “being instead of doing”, learn to observe our thoughts, coming out the automatic pilot…
The “How”
Altogether, the MN practices are typically taught during an 8-weeks standard program (scientific studies have shown that just eight weeks of mindfulness practice can lead to measurable benefits).
Individual session(s) are both a valuable inspiring option as entry point to mindfulness and a suitable option for those participants who prefer to explore first mindfulness.
Mindfulness Now works because
- above all, it is a trauma-sensitive approach to mindfulness
- it is a unique and inclusive
- moreover, compassion guides all practices
- to emphasize, merges MBSR and MBCT considering all the points above.
- the mindfulness teacher gently guides the participant through the practices
- participant’s privacy is a key element
- the mindfulness teacher is licensed and in continuos professional development
What to expect:
beforehand
Once enrolled, the participant will receive an assessment form as well as a document explaining privacy and safeguarding . Few days prior the (first) session, the participant will send back the filled assessment form and read the privacy-safeguarding document.
during
After this, we are ready to start the session(s) that will typically last for 90 minutes. Generally, the session(s) will include a mixture between practical a theoretical parts where we will also self-reflect on how we experienced them. At the end of the session(s), home practices are suggested. When there are few sessions on a row (i.e. package format or 8-weeks program) at the beginning of the session there is check in about the home practice from previous week.
afterwards
Participant will self-practice at home. The suggestion is to join the informal support group (‘drop-in’ style) in order to keep up the practices. At the end of the last session more info is shared about this support group.
Firstly, you will need:
- no previous knowledge-experience with mindfulness
- to take care of youself at any time during the sessions – when something is not suitable for you, it is perfectly fine
- an open mind
- above all, just bring yourself as you are.
Secondly, you will gain (few examples)
- improved health and wellbeing
- greater self-confidence
- stress reduction
- clarity and focus
- greater resilience
- enhanced creativity
- improved relationships
- pain reduction
- reduced anxiety and depression
- mindfulness will not only benefit you but also those around
